Week 1 Updates
ENGR 103 - 068: Week One Update (4/4/18)
Brainstorming:
Detailed Design Ideas:
·
Black cat (turn head,
meow)
·
Owl (rotating head,
flying above the maze, scary noises)
·
Painting like thing, face/head popping out
·
Head with two faces
Large-Scale Design Ideas:
·
Pumpkin head
o
Lifting off, laughing, etc.
·
Arms crawling out on ground at their feet
·
Zombie on side, falling out with arms
o
Grabbing above (missing the kids) with tassel/rags
hanging down
·
Figure behind fence, shaking (at entrance?)
o
Blend in with wall, sensors activate shaking,
screaming, etc.
·
Dinosaur head (or other head)
o
Moving out, opening, eyes glow…
o
Roar
o
Motion sensor
·
Turning head with two diff faces on any type of design
·
Rocking chair, dropping stuff, crashing noises
·
Witch
o
Fly by with laugh (behind wall?)
· “Painting” popping out of frame
o
Multiple sensors that start different activities
(one for knocking/lights, one for movement/more lights when kids are right in
front of painting)
o
Background of painting – red or black drapes
o
Some type of figure or figures (skeletons,
ghosts, zombies?)
o
Maybe the figures aren’t scary at all and then
just pop out
o
Witch? Creepy nose
Once we came up with enough ideas, we evaluated them one by one to determine how practical they would be to make and if they fulfilled the requirements of the project. We then decided on the "painting" idea and had it approved. This meets the "large-scale" design requirements. It will consist of a what appears to be a painting of a figure on the wall. Once the child gets close enough, motion will be detected and the knocking and lights will appear. Then the figure in the painting will appear to move and pop out of the painting, thus scaring those watching. This will require sensors to detect when the children were near as well as activating a light and sound. Motors will be used to move the figure out of the painting and allow it to appear life like.
